inked up sat down with our designer, MOLLY, to find out what makes her tick:
What is your tattoo style?:
“I turn my hand to most styles of tattooing but my favourites are Japanese and neo traditional.”
What's your Instagram handle? :
“@mollymalevolent.tattoo”
Where are you based? :
“I currently work out of Emily’s Inkroom tattoo studio in Lingfield, Surrey and have been there for the last 4 years.”
What inspired you to be a Tattoo artist?:
“I pretty much just fell into the tattoo industry. When I was studying art in sixth form I would design tattoos for my friends as they were just turning 18 just because I could draw, but even then it didn’t really occur to me that I could do that for a living it wasn’t until someone suggested it as a work experience. I managed to get a weeks work placement and fell in love with it. I quit school a few weeks after and started working there full time as a receptionist and worked my way up from there.”
How long have you been tattooing 1? :
“I have been tattooing for a little over 10 years. Who have been your influences? Some of my favourite artists at the moment are Daria Pirojenko, Sharon Mash, Elia Leonardi and Viviana Calvo.”
If you could tattoo anyone who would it be?:
“That’s a hard one. I think I would like to sort out some celebrities that has some shit tattoos, it baffles me that they have the money and people around them to get something really decent yet they still walk around with shitty tattoos and influence their fans to get the same shit as them.”
If you could tattoo anything / design what would it be?:
“If I could tattoo anything it would be a full back or torso piece of a Shinto deity or demon in colour in a neo trad Japanese fusion kind of style.”
What gets you in the zone?:
“Music but don’t ask me what music because that changes all the time depending on my mood.”
What is the most bizarre thing you've tattooed?:
“Either a chimpanzee holding a revolver or a lightbulb full of water with Dory inside with the lightbulb filament spelling out ‘fucktard’.”
How do you unwind after a long day at work? :
“Either chill out watching a good series on Netflix with a takeaway or doing some drawing or taking the dogs for a long walk if the weather isn’t too bad.”
